JAVANESE PEOPLE SAID KETEK AND IRENG TO REV.PAUL TABUNI’S

Rev.Paul Tabunis’s a missionary of the Gospel Churches of Indonesia in Papua. He finished his Theology School in Manokwari and Gospel Churches of Indonesia Theology in Sentani. After that he went to Yoyakarta. He sent by Gospel Churches of Indonesia Synod there. He worked as missionary for 20 years in Yogyakarta. He got married and had 3 daughters. He studied Javanese language for a year while served Javanese people. He usually hear some Javanese called him monkey (ketek) and black man (ireng)! It’s about 100 times; they called ketek and ireng in the Javanese language.

When he lived there, he always serves to Javanese people in difference place every day. After served them, while he went back home on foot heard the Javanese said to him monkey (ketek) or black man (ireng). But he never said to his daughters and wife. But sometimes when he heard the same words, he just amount it. He prayed to them, because he realized, they didn’t understand about it so they didn’t understand about Lord, because Lord very loved white, black and other colour people in the world, like Javanese, Chinese, Japanese, African, European and everyone. How the God created men and women in the world? A lot of people in the world had difference colours, characters and everything. He decided to serve them. He never angry about it, but he just said thanks God for today because I have a time for served many people in here.

After 20 years ago, he moved to Malang. In Malang he served Maduranese while studying at Merdeka University in Malang. The program is master of management public. He graduated at Merdeka University in 2002. In the ceremonials of the graduated it, he invited all highlands Papua student and said about his experience when he served Javanese and Maduranese people in Yogyakarta and Malang. He said! I served them and they always say to me monkey and black man, when they saw me anywhere.

He lived in Malang about 3 years with his family. He went back to Papua in 2002, but his wife and daughters still in Malang because his daughters studying at some university in Malang. Now, he worked in Puncakjaya Regency as head of bulog.
